You might remember that last year, Manitoba was named by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 travel destinations in the world. We like to think that’s in part because of the incredible dining we have here in Winnipeg; you can get cuisines from all corners of the globe, traditional fare, fusion, locally-sourced food, and great greasy spoon deliciousness all within a few blocks of each other. commercial drain cleaning in Winnipeg is most commonly done in restaurants, often as a result of inadequately installed grease traps. What we want to talk about today is one of the most important devices in the restaurant business – the dishwasher.

For those reading this blog who aren’t in the restaurant industry – first, let me applaud your curiosity. You might be confused – aren’t restaurant dishwashers usually people? That’s true, but restaurants actually employ both human and mechanical dishwashers. The mechanical dishwashers in restaurants are a heck of a lot different than the ones you find at home – they’re hyper-efficient. There are a few different variations you can get with these dishwashers. Low-temperature dishwashers work with chemical additives. They can be cost-effective, but they aren’t quite as effective at getting rid of lipids, which means things like lipstick stains and grease can be hard to tackle with low-temp variants.

High-temperature dishwashers use booster heaters to heat the water very quickly, sanitizing the dishes. There’s also a lot of variation in how the dishwashers are constructed – there are some designed specifically for cleaning glass, some that are designed to be installed under the counter, and dishwashers that have conveyor belts installed.

The reason we’re letting you know about all of these variants is to illustrate something pretty important – commercial plumbing differs a lot from residential plumbing. In order to properly install these dishwashers, you need to make sure your plumbing is up to the job. In particular, you might need a fairly high-capacity drainage system to deal with all the wastewater coming out of your dishwasher.

We talked briefly about grease traps at the start of this article, and if you’ve got a high-capacity commercial dishwasher, you’re going to need one. Of course, you have your human dishwashers scraping off excess grease, doing rinses, so on and so forth – that will help – but you definitely want a grease trap to get anything that they may have missed. As we talked about in a previous article, the City gets really upset when you’re getting grease in the sewers, and as a business owner, you know that when the City is upset – it means fines.

We don’t want you to have to deal with fines, so whenever you’re getting new equipment installed, if it’s linked to your plumbing, give us a call! We’ll make sure that all of your plumbing is well-suited to the new equipment, and if it’s not, we’ll help you update it. We can also do yearly plumbing checks to make sure everything is working properly.
